Young, Don Raymond (P3, C2, L16)
Private Don Raymond Young, 25, of Paducah, McCracken County, died while on active duty for training on 16 August 1979 at Fort Benning, Georgia. Young was found nonresponsive in his bunk and was pronounced dead on arrival at Martin Army Hospital. His death was attributed to coronary atherosclerosis which is a narrowing of the arteries. He was completing his Advanced Individual Training (AIT) and was waiting to take his final Physical Training (PT) test.
Young was a graduate of Paducah Tilghman High School.
Young joined Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the 1st Battalion of the 123rd Armor on 15 September 1978. He shipped to basic training in March 1979. Young is buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Paducah section 6, Lot 311.
