Burckle, Charles J. (P1R, C1, L3)

Burckle, 27, of Louisville, Jefferson County, was killed in action in France on 8 August 1918 while serving with Battery A of the 146th Field Artillery, 41st Division. Believed to have been wounded in battle of Amiens (third battle of Picardy), 8 August 1918.

Burckle enlisted with Co E, 1st Kentucky Infantry Regiment of the Kentucky National Guard on 30 July 1917. He also served with Battery D, 138th Field Artillery. Burckle left the United States for France on 12 June 1918 and died of wounds received in battle some two months later on August 8 1918. Burckle is buried in the St. Louis Cemetery in Louisville.
