McCleese, Roy (P1, C?, L?)
Private Roy McCleese, 20, of Farmers, Rowan County, died on spinal meningitis at the Camp Shelby base hospital on 21 December 1917 while serving on federal active duty with his unit – Company C, 149th Infantry. His father was at his side at the hospital when he died.
McCleese enlisted in Company C of the 2nd Kentucky Infantry Regiment on 16 July 1917 in Lexington. His World War One service card lists his father as Dr. McCleese of Farmers, Rowan County. No other information concerning his family or burial has been discovered to date.
One newspaper reference gives Camp Taylor instead of Camp Shelby but nearly a month after the fact.
