Johnson, Alexander Edward, Jr. (P2, C2, L38)

Alexander Edward Johnson Jr. of Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, joined Headquarters Company of the 149th Infantry of the Kentucky National Guard on 13 September 1939 and had risen to the rank of Corporal by December 1940 when he was transferred to the Antitank Company of the 149th Infantry. He was inducted into federal active duty with his unit in January 1941. He was killed on 23 December 1942 while serving with 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division and is buried in the North Africa American Cemetery in
Carthage Tunisia. Johnson listed his civilian occupation as clerk and later as an insurance agent.
